Server remote access
All server infrastructures provided by Bioinformatics Center are available only from UEF intranet. If you are travelling or use your personal laptop some extra software and/or actions are required. There are two different ways to connect to the servers outside of UEF intranet.

SSH gateway
SSH Gateway server can be used to connect various servers that are located within UEF intranet. Authentication is done with your UEF credentials.
The first connect to sshgw.uef.fi by using ssh client software. From sshgw.uef.fi you are able to make further connections to servers located within UEF intranet. It is also possible to use GUI (graphical user interface) software and Jupyter Notebooks through ssh connection. However, it requires some knowledge about "X11 Forwarding" and/or "local port forwarding".

Windows Virtual Desktop
Probably the easiest way to get access to UEF intranet services is to use Windows Virtual Desktop (WVD) service provided by UEF IT Services. WVD is a virtual desktop instance that works like any real desktop computer in the university campus. From WVD you are able to make further connections to servers located within UEF intranet. Once you have installed WVD on your personal computer you can start it through Remote Desktop
software.
